Board of Ed Prepares for Budget Season

Board will utilize new website to get information to community once they account for missing pieces.

The Syosset Board of Education said they will be posting updated budget information on the new district website as soon as it becomes available. The budget season will be in full swing once the "missing piece" is reported: official state aid numbers.

During the audience to the public at Monday's meeting, Frederic Gain pointed out the "missing piece of the puzzle," which was confirmation of exact amounts of state aid. Depending on the final numbers, the cap amount can change. The actual Syosset cap is expected to be 2.24 percent.

"We don't have to stay to the [2 percent] cap…we need a 60 percent yes vote to go over," said Superintendent Carole Hankin.

Whatever the change is, the board has promised to update the community via the revitalized district website.

"As soon as we have information, it will be on our site," said Hankin, who emphasized the board's efforts at compliance with Senator Kemp Hannon's new law requiring availability of board documents on the internet

"Every single part of the budget will be there, line by line. You'll see what the cap is, what went up, what went down…everything will be posted."
