Crime Report: Home Depot Heist

Man charged with theft at Jericho Home Depot, burglaries, car break-ins in Syosset and Plainview.

 

A New Cassel man is accused of stealing items from the Jericho Home Depot and threatening a security guard with a knife, Nassau County Police said.

Alan M. Miles, 46 of New Cassel, exited Home Depot without paying while attempting to conceal items in his clothing, according to police reports. When security officers attempted to stop Miles, said police, he threatened them with a kitchen knife and fled on foot. Police reported that Miles was seen taking a bicycle on Briarcliffe Road in Westbury where a responding officer injured her wrist attempting to stop him.

Miles was finally apprehended on Audrey Road in Westbury by assisting officers and the stolen items were returned to Home Depot, said police.

No other injuries were reported.

Miles was charged with third degree robbery, second degree assault, second degree menacing, petit larceny and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned on Jan. 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Jan. 10: Grand larceny; Parkway Elementary, Plainview; items stolen from car.
Jan. 11: Burglary; Eton Place, Plainview; cash, jewelry stolen.
Jan. 12: Burglary; Colony Lane, Syosset; safe, jewelry, passports stolen.
Jan. 12: Burglary; Verizon Wireless, Woodbury; unknown items lost.
Jan. 13: Burglary; Preston Lane, Syosset; safe, jewelry stolen.
Jan. 17: Criminal mischief; Syosset LIRR; car keyed.
Jan. 21: Grand larceny; Audrey Avenue, Plainview; tires and rims stolen from car.
Jan. 22: Grand larceny; Cherry Drive, Plainview; tires and rims stolen from car.
Jan. 22: Robbery; Morton Village Plaza, Plainview; subject tackled, punched; wallet with cash stolen.
Jan. 23: Grand larceny; gym parking lot, Syosset; pocketbook with cash, checkbook stolen from car.
Jan. 23: Burglary: Pleasant Avenue, Plainview; cash, jewelry, pocketbook with cash and checkbook stolen.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Jan. 16: Alan Miles, 46, charged with robbery, Home Depot, Jericho.
Jan. 17: Brian Bond, 41, charged with falsifying business records, Jericho Turnpike, Syosset.
Jan. 18: Sonny Cayaban, 38, charged with burglary, Healthy Eatery, Syosset.

Any further information about the incident at Morton Village?

Also, how might we get the police to have another community meeting about the burglaries in our area?
