Crimes Nearby: Man Arrested in Cemetery Vase Theft

Arrests for Farmingdale cemetery vase theft, Hicksville pirated DVDs, and other crimes from neighboring towns.

 

 

Farmingdale

A 26-year-old West Babylon man is under arrest and charged with allegedly stealing 22 bronze cemetery vases from a Farmingdale cemetery operation.

Police say Shaun Dosch took the vases from Pinelawn Memorial Park during the past few months with the intent to melt down the items to sell as scrap metal. The estimated value of the vases is $7,000, according to police.

The arrest by First Squad detectives took place on February 18 following information received from First Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement Officer Joseph Russo.

Dosch is charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Hicksville

Nassau County detectives have charged a Flushing man with counterfeiting in connection with the illegal distribution of fake DVDs.

Detectives with the Second Squad charged Zhan Lin, 45, of 166-15 65 Ave., Flushing, following a sting operation in Hicksville.

Lin approached two plainclothes Bureau of Special Operations officers who were inside 265 N. Broadway, Hicksville on Friday. The defendant offered to sell them DVD movies for $5 each, police said. The officers identified themselves and placed Lin under arrest without incident.

In addition to numerous counterfeit DVDs he had in his possession, hundreds more were found inside his vehicle, police said.

Lin is charged with counterfeiting and two counts of failing to disclose the origin of a recording. He was arraigned on Saturday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Seventeen people, including eight at a CVS pharmacy in Hicksville, face felony charges of forging prescriptions at various pharmacies throughout Nassau  County.

Eight of those arrested had attempted to fill forged prescriptions to obtain painkillers at the CVS in Hicksville, at the corner of Old Country Road and Newbridge Road, authorities said.

In one case, a woman posed as a doctor or nurse practitioner on seven different occasions and called in prescriptions for patients whose identity she had stolen.

Northport

A man reported that a neighbor bumped his parked car on Ward Avenue Feb. 8 then told him that he shouldn't park where he usually does.

A landlord on Norwood Avenue reported on Feb. 8 that she is trying to have a tenant evicted and the tenant keeps hand delivering legal correspondence in her mail box. The Northport Post Office post master informed the police that it is a federal violation to hand deliver correspondence to a residential mailbox and added that  the post office usually gives one warning to the offender before the violation is enforced.
