Empty in Syosset: Former Duo Clothing Store

What should replace the now vacant Duo Clothing Store and surrounding properties?

Though TOBAY unemployment decreased in December 2011, the improvement was only slight. One of the reasons that improvement was tiny and not terrific is the closing of businesses. Although Borders is the most prominent empty business in Syosset, a scenic trip down Jericho Turnpike involves a lot of For Sale and Office Space signs.

Syosset Patch will be highlighting those empty buildings in the neighborhood, asking our readers what should replace it.

This week, we're looking at the former Duo Fashion for Men & Women.

According to Coldwell Banker's website, the former clothing store has been bunched together with the former Jewel of India restaurant property, bringing the price tag up to $3,400,000.

The annual taxes on the overall property are $80,845 for the 125 x 94 foot lot. With 12,148 internal square footage, the three separate units could become three different establishments or be torn down to make room for a single structure.

What do you think should replace the former Duo Clothing Store? Should the constructions at that site become separate stores or should a new, single construction be developed? If you live in the surrounding neighborhood, what types of stores or restaurants would you like there? What wouldn't you want there? Tell us in the comments!
