Empty in Syosset: Former Ford Dealership
Property to become a shopping center. What do you think of the plans?
Last month's employment reports showed the tiniest of improvements for Syosset and the rest of TOBAY. One of the reasons the improvement was tiny and not terrific is the closing of businesses. Although Borders is the most prominent empty business in Syosset, a scenic trip down Jericho Turnpike involves a lot of For Sale and Office Space signs.
Syosset Patch will be highlighting those empty buildings in the neighborhood, asking our readers what should replace it.
This week, we're looking at the former Syosset Ford dealership.
Vacant since April 2011, the 3.04 acre property at 240 Jericho Turnpike lies next door to the Muttontown Plaza. The large structure, which still bears the shadow of the former business' logo, has 30,000 interior square feet and a parking lot large enough to fit a whopping 600 cars.
According to NAI Long Island, the realty company responsible for the property, the former car dealership is slated to be "redeveloped as [an approximately] 30,000 square foot shopping center by expanding its current footprint by 8,000 square feet."
What do you think of the plan for the former Syosset Ford dealership? What kinds of stores and establishments would you like to see on the property? If you have an idea, are a neighbor who has seen some action on the property, or a realtor with information, tell us in the comments, on Facebook or tweet us @SyossetPatch.

I had heard Applebee's was looking at the spot. Is that possibility out now?

I'm all for developing all the vacant properties into appropriate businesses making the Cerro notion even less of an attractive one (if that is even possible).

I really don't think we need more potentially empty storefronts!

A federal prison, we have plenty of crooks in Syosset.
