VIDEO: The Black Wolf Hosts Hot Wings Competition

The Black Wolf Bar and Grill in Syosset hosted its first hot wings challenge on Friday night.

The Black Wolf Bar & Grill crowned their first ever hot wings champion, Charles Higuera, on Friday night.

Eight contestants, including several from the , attempted to eat 12 of what Chef Barret Beyer thinks are "definitely the hottest wings on the planet."

"I'm alright," said Higuera, who won a bottle of Black Wolf's homemade ghost chili sauce, dinner for two at the Black Wolf, a t-shirt, and a picture on the Wall of Flame.

The challenge was divided into two parts. After first signing a waiver, contestants had to consume six chicken wings coated in a sauce infused with ghost pepper. The first five to finish those wings moved onto the next round where they raced to finish another six wings covered in ghost pepper, Trinidad scorpion pepper, and pure capsaicin.

The ghost and Trinidad scorpion peppers have both held the Guinness world record for being the hottest pepper ever harvested and are almost 400 times hotter than a jalapeño. The crystallized capsaicin, the active ingredient in most pepper sprays, had to be carefully added to the sauce using rubber gloves and tweezers. Chef Beyer a gas mask to prepare the second round.

"They were about as hot as I imagined," said Geri Evans, who finished before anyone else in the first round. "But my parents are Jamaican so I'm used to spicy food."

The others didn't leave empty handed. All were all awarded ice cream sandwiches, tall glasses of milk, and places on the Wall of Shame.

"We want to attract people to Black Wolf and eventually get onto a show like Man vs. Food or Heatseekers," said Chef Beyer, who is creating more food challenges to host at the Black Wolf.

Anyone up for the challenge can now ask for the wings at Black Wolf, or purchase Black Wolf's own homemade sauce.
