Faith Lutheran Welcomes Rabbi Jaimee Shalhevet
In recognition of our faith roots in Jewish heritage,…Read More we welcome Rabbi Jaimee Shalhevet to speak as we celebrate Pentecost this Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 10:00AM.
“When the day of Pentecost had come…” begins Sunday’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles. Pentecost is the Greek name for the Festival of Weeks, a prominent feast in the calendar of ancient Israel celebrating the giving of the Law on Sinai. It was a holy celebration observed by the Jewish people of antiquity, including Jesus and his disciples. This feast is still celebrated as Shavuot, which falls 50 days after Passover. Christianity now recognizes the Day of Pentecost as the time foretold by Jesus when the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Rabbi Jaimee Shalhevet, a native Long Islander, grew up in Sayville and graduated from Brandeis University in 2000. Before enrolling in Rabbinic School, she worked for Synagogue 2000 (now Synagogue 3000) and at Temple Sinai of Roslyn. Rabbi Shalhevet was ordained by the Hebrew Union College and now ministers to our neighbors at North Shore Synagogue on Muttontown Road, Syosset.
Faith Lutheran Church is located at 231 Jackson Avenue in Syosset.
