Summary:
Victoria Skyler (aka V) has it all. She has a wonderful marriage to her husband Jason, a dynamic executive career which includes a loyal assistant and she is pregnant with her first baby. V is confident it will be simple to keep everything under control and continue life as usual once the baby is born. That is, until baby Madison comes at the most inopportune time. V tries her best to balance her demanding boss, her husband and her new “mommy” title. Her monster- in- law, Bitsy, feels that she should quit her job and become a charitable socialite, just like her soon to be “frienemy” Heather, while her mother feels that she should go back to work a week after having the baby. In the midst of managing her only “mommy friend”, the nanny (whom V feels is growing closer to Madison than she), her newly overeager assistant, her marriage and, most importantly, Madison, V gets her share of unexpected revelations. In the end, she makes a choice that is shocking, yet inspirational, at the same time.
My Thoughts:
I knew I was going to appreciate this book the minute I read its brilliant title. It was extraordinary from beginning to end. Being a working mom myself, I could relate with the struggles V encounterd. Whether they were insignificant decisions like what to invent for dinner from an empty refrigerator or crucial choices like ignoring the never-ending beep of a BlackBerry. "At the Corner of Wall and Sesame" was a delight to read.
Bravo Wendy! I cannot wait for the next novel. And a little birdie told me it is in the works!
