Sometimes you are placed in this role suddenly--like a car accident--and sometimes imperceptibly, your life is changed--temporarily or forever. You find yourself thrust into the role of caregiver--for a short time or for a lifetime, either your lifetime or that of someone dear to you. You shrug, and accept the burden. And then the long voyage begins.
