Get Out: 9/11 Memorials This Weekend

This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  We’ve included one memorial service and a school event that all are encouraged to attend.

1. Memorial Service: To Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

Where/When: TOBAY Beach, 1000 Ocean Parkway, Massapequa, 516-797-7900, oysterbaytown.com., Friday, September 9 @ 7 p.m.

Why Go: Candlelight vigil, vocal performances, bagpipe music, religious readings and the names of those lost on 9/11 will be read, sponsored by Town of Oyster Bay.

Pricing: Free.

2. 9/11 Walkathon Held By the PTA

Where/When: Syosset High School Track, Sunday, September 11, @ 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Why Go: All staff and famillies are encouraged to join and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. A moment of silence at 9:11 a.m., the singing of the national anthem, and walk around the track passing on the American flag.

Pricing: Free.

3. Greek Festival

Where/When: Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Hicksville, 20 Field Ave., Hicksville, 516-433-4522, Friday September 9 @ 5- 11 p.m., Saturday September 10 @ noon-11 p.m. and Sunday September 11 @ noon- 11 p.m.

Why Go: Greek food and pastries, Greek dancers, vendors and more.

Pricing: Free.

4. Medieval Festival

Where/When: Sands Point Preserve, 127 Middle Neck Rd., Sands Point, 516-946-8750, kingdomofacre.org, Saturday, September 10th and Sunday September 11th @11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: See jousting shows, archery, merchants, fashion shows, food, game booths and more.

Pricing: $12 adults, $6.00 children ages 4-12.

5. Season Opener –Belmont Race Track

Where/When: Belmont Park Race Track, 2150 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, 516-488-6000, www.nyra.com., Saturday September 9 @ 1 p.m.

Why Go: The opening of the track’s fall meet which brings the best horses ,jockeys and trainers together to compete in their 37 day fall championship.
