Get Out: Weekend Guide to Syosset, May 27-30

Take a look at some events taking place this weekend.

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and there are plenty of things going on to get you out of the house. Check out this guide to help you enjoy the three day weekend as well as honor those who have served our country.

1.  Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach

Where/When: Jones Beach State Park, 2400 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh, 631-321-3510, jonesbeachairshow.com., Saturday and Sunday May 28-29 @ 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why Go: See military and civilian performers, the United States Army, Golden Knights parachute team and United States Air Force F22 Raptor. Plan to get there early, before 10 a.m. and enjoy the beach and carnival style vendors. Parking fields 4 and 5 offer the best views.

Pricing: Free admission, $10 parking.

2. Memorial Day Service

Where/When: Long Island National Cemetery, 2040 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale NY 516-785-9090, Sunday May 29 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: Military and organizational color guards will present their colors as they pass in review. Comfortable seating under portable shelters will be available to all as well as comfort stations. You are welcome to enjoy the new Memorial Garden after the service.

Pricing: Free.

3. Nassau County Craft and Gift Fair

Where/When: Nassau Colisuem, 1255 Hempstead Tpke, Uniondale, NY 516-442-6000, nassaucountycraftshows.com, Saturday and Sunday May 28-29 @ 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Why Go: A variety of crafts and goods will be available for purchase, made by local craftsmen and artists. All are welcome.

Pricing: Free.

 4. Film- “Eat, Pray, Love”

Where/When: , 225 S. Oyster Bay Rd., Syosset, 516-921-7161, Syossetlibrary.org., Friday 2 p.m.

Why Go: See the Screening of starring Julia Roberts. A married woman (Julie Roberts) realizes how unhappy her marriage really is, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself.”

Pricing: Free.

5. Syosset Memorial Day Parade

Where/When: The parade will start on Dawes Avenue and proceed along Jackson Avenue to the Memorial Park in the center of Syosset, Monday May 30, @ 10-11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Local school bands and community groups will participate.  This is an excellent opportunity to remember and honor the many men and women of our military who died while protecting our nation.
