Get Out: Weekend Planner, May 13-14

Here's what's going on this weekend.

This weekend offers a lot to do in Syosset and in neighboring towns.

There’s a senior tea and the annual Syosset Spring clean up. Camps are having opens houses for you and the kids to tour, or you can have your pet blessed. There are some walks for causes, a play in Hicksville or square dancing in Oyster Bay.

There’s lots to do to help you get out and enjoy the Spring weekend.

1.  Senior Citizen Tea

Where/When: , Convent Rd., Syosset,  516 364-5817, Friday May 13 @ 1:45 p.m.-2:25 p.m.

Why Go: Free Tea party featuring an afternoon of music and arts performed by the students, hear the Village string ensemble, listen to a piano concert and hear the students sing and perform. Have some homemade goodies baked for you to enjoy with your tea, bring your friends.

Pricing: Free.

2. Camp Open House

Where/When: Mid-Island Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd., Plainview NY, 516 822-3535, Sunday May 15 @ 10 a.m.- 12:15 p.m.

Why Go: Tour the campgrounds for those interested in the camp programs the Mid-Island Y has to offer for children and teens ages 2-16.

Pricing: Free for tour.

3.   Say It’s Only a Paper Bloom

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury, (516) 333-0048, oldwestburygardens.org, Saturday @ noon.

Why Go:  Make your artwork come to life- literally!  Using specially seeded paper, children will recreate a favorite Walled Garden bloom to display and later plant at home.

Pricing: Free with admission.

4. Portledge Summer Adventures Open House

Where/When: Portledge School, 355 Duck Pond Road, Locust Valley, 516-750-3104, Sunday April 15 @ noon-2 p.m. www.portledge.org/summeradventures

Why Go: Sample activities at an open house offered at Portledge Summer Adventures. Includes art, science, soccer, chess, fencing, baseball and much more. Meet the instructors and tour the campus. For Children 2-15.

Pricing: Free for tour.

5. Pet Blessing

Where/When: Temple Beth Elohim, 926 Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, NY 516-694-4544, mytemple.org, Sunday May 15 @ 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Have your pet blessed by the temple. Pets must be on a leash or crated at all times. Pets must be current on vaccinations, sociable with other animals and humans and at least 4 months old.

Pricing: Free.

6. Lymphomathon

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury, http://www.lymphomathon.org/LongIsland2011,  Saturday May 14 @ 9 a.m.

Why Go: Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives ave been touched by lymphoma. Registration  9.a.m walk begins at 10 a.m.

Pricing: Donations.

7. Contra Dance

Where/When: Coe Hall, Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, Planting Fields Rd., Oyster Bay, 516-922-8662, Saturday May 14, @7:30-9:30 p.m.

Why Go: You can celebrate the Wild West culture with traditional square dancing music, activities and refreshments.

Pricing: $10 nonmembers, children under 12 free.

8.  Annual Garden Clean Up and Flower Planting

Where/When: Meet at Memorial Park across from Astoria Bank and the LIRR, Saturday May 14 @ 9 a.m.

Why Go: RESIDENTS for a more beautiful Syosset sponsors event to beautify Syosset. Bring your garden trowels, shovels and garden gloves and help plant flowers. Rain date is May 21.

Pricing: Free.

9. Boys Lacrosse Game

Where/When: 10 a.m. at Plainview JFK High School, 50 Kennedy Drive, Plainview.

Why Go: Go root on the Syosset boys lacrosse team as they take on Plainview JFK.

Pricing: Free.

10. “Into the Woods”

Where/When: Holy Trinity High School, 98 Cherry Lane, Hicksville, holytrinityhs.echalk.com, Thursday Friday and Saturday @ 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: See the Holy Trinity Performing Arts Department perform  the musical“Into the Woods” by Stephen Sonheim, a play which intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales.

Pricing: $10 before show, $12 at show.
