Get Out: Weekend Planner, May 20-22

Here's what's going on for the family this weekend.

With all the rain we’ve had this week, we are sure you and the family will want to get out this weekend which promises sunshine.

There is lots to do, starting right here in Syosset with the annual Spring Festival at the train station. Other events not far from Syosset promise to help with the rainy day blues.

1.  Syosset Spring Festival

Why Go: The festival offers art, crafts jewelry, new merchandise, antiques food and more.

2. Nassau County Police Department Open House

Where/When: 1490 Franklin Ave., Mineola, (rear of headquarters). 516-573-7135, Thursday and Friday, May 19 and May 20 @ 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Get to see demonstrations of various units in the police department such as Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Special Operations. Includes visit to the police museum and detention cells. Appropriate for children.

Pricing: Free.

3. Porsche Auto Show

When/Where: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury, 516-333-0048, oldwestburygardens.org., Sunday May 22 @ 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why Go: See Porsches from the mid-1950’s to the current model on display. Families welcome.

Pricing: $10, $8 for seniors over 62, $5 for children 7-17. $50 to register a Porsche.

4.  History Alive

Where/When: Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd. Old Bethpage, 516-572-8400, www.nassaucountyny.gov. Sunday May 22, @ noon- 4 p.m.

Why Go:  Tell the kids to leave the cell phones, I-Pads, and iPods home as they take a step back in time by participating in re-enactments of 19th century activities, including churning fresh cream into butter at the Powell Farmhouse, carding wool at the Benjamin House, assisting in making a hat, and sweeping the porch at the General Store with a handmade corn broom.

 Pricing: $10, $7.00 for ages 5-12 under 5 free.

5.  Pippi Longstocking

Where/When: Jeanne Rimsky Theater, 232 Main St., Port Washington, 516-767-6444,  landmarkonmainstreet.org,  Sunday May 22 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: See the American Family theater production as the story book character of an 8 year old super human girl comes to life.

Pricing: $18.00.

6. Ladies Kennel Association of America: All breed Dog Show

Where/When: Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, 1395 Planting Fields Rd., Oyster Bay, 631-928-1517, lkaa.org., Friday and Saturday May 20 & 21st, @ 9 a.m.

Why Go: Food, and various vendors with all sorts of dog supplies. Judging of dogs begins at 9 a.m. and best in show is expected around 4 p.m. Rain or shine, please leave your pets at home.

Pricing: $10 per car.

7. Independence Triathlon

Where/When: Eisenhower Park, Hempstead Turnpike and Stewart Ave., East Meadow, 516-572-0348, triandduit.com Sunday May 22 @ 7:30 a.m.

Why Go: Starts with a 500 meter pool swim in the Nassau County Aquatics Center Pool, followed by a 3 loop, 6 mile bike ride on a closed course that takes you around the park and ends with a 2.25 mile flat run through Eisenhower Park on the running paths. A portion of this year’s race proceeds will be going to the Wounded Warrior Project. Please register.

8. Opera Night

Where/When: Christ Church, 61 E. Main Street, Oyster Bay, 631-261-8808, Friday May 20 @ 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Hear professionally trained vocalists with piano accompaniment perform Opera highlights.

Pricing: $15.

9. Plant Sale

Where/When: Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, 1395 Planting Fields Rd., Oyster Bay, 631-368-5997, Sunday May 22 @ 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Why Go: If you haven’t done your spring planting yet, this is the place where you can browse the variety of Long Island Plants for sale with proceeds benefiting the Long Island Chapter of the American Rock garden Society. Rain or shine.

 10. Songs for a Lifetime

Where/When: , 225 S. Oyster Bay Rd., Syosset, 516-921-7161, Sunday May 22 @ 5 p.m.

Why Go: JC Revue will sing songs from her latest CD and many more including songs from Donna Summer, Billy Joel, Judy Garland, and Aretha Franklin
