Kids Weekend Planner

The weekend will be here before you know it so now is the time to start thinking of things for the kids to do. Good thing there’s plenty going on to keep them occupied.

1.       Kids Only Long Island Bottle Rocket Competition

Why Go: Be part of a rocket-building workshop followed by a competition (weather permitting) for children in grades 3-8 with an adult. Reservations required.

2.       T-Shirt Design

Where/When: Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center, Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh, 516-679-7254, Sunday June 5, 10:30 a.m.-noon

Why Go: Paint will be supplied. Bring a t-shirt and create your own design.

Pricing: $3.00 children, $8.00 parking during fee collection session.

3.       Percussion Pets

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 David Avenue, East Garden City, 516-224-5800, LICM.org., Thursday and Friday June 2 & 3, 2:30-4 p.m.

Why Go: Children of all ages can create a musical pet to strum in the sounds of summer

4.       Charlotte’s Web

Where/When: Jeanne Rimsky Theater in Port Washington, 232 Main St. Port Washington, NY, 516-767-6444, www.landmarkonmainstreet.org, Sunday June 5 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: Theatreworks' production of "Charlotte's Web" is based on E.B. White's loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. This tale, featuring madcap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

Pricing: $45, $40

5.       Create Your Own Mouse Pad

Where/When: The Garden Art Studio, Mineola, 516-742-7662, the gardenartstudio@gmail.com, Saturday June 4 @ 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Children in grades 1-6 can design patterns on special circular mouse pads. Must register in advance.

Pricing: $25.00, $20.00 if you bring a friend.
