Grab and Go Kids Planner

Here's what's going on for the kids for the rest of the week.

It’s the weekend before St. Patrick’s day, and there’s plenty to do for the kids. To get in the spirit of the holiday, head over to the , where kids can create a lucky Leprechaun puppet or see traditional Irish dancing performed.

There’s  an arts and craft project at the Whaling Museum and for all the Science Fiction fans, there’s a live performance of Star Trek. And if you want to see Jungle Book performed live, head over to Merrick.

1. Lucky Leprechaun Finger Puppets

Why Go: Leprechauns are mischievous fairies in Irish folktales, and bring good luck. Children of all ages can create a leprechaun finger puppet and bring the luck of the Irish into your home, in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

2. Sunday Craft: Scrimshaw Keychain

Where/When: Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum, 301 Main Street, (Rt. 25A) Cold Spring Harbor, 631-367-3418, http://cshwhalingmuseum.org., Sunday March 13 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: Children ages 5-12 will see examples of real scrimshaw (handiwork made from real bones or teeth of whales)  and learn how to carve their own scrimshaw keychain with a Pickwick,  reserve.

3.  Mad Science Productions: Star Trek Live!

Why  Go: Be part of the Theatrical experience featuring a journey through the Star Trek universe, with special effects, audience interaction and an exploration of real space-age technology, for all ages.

4. Celtic Fun with Darlene Graham and the Shades of Green

Why Go: With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, Children ages 3 and older can explore traditional Irish music with Darlene Graham and the Shakes of Green band.

5. Jungle Book

Why Go: See the classic performance of Walt Disney’s “Jungle Book” in the Magic Curtain Family Theatre.
