Grab and Go Kids Planner: July 1-5

Here are some fun ideas for the July 4th weekend.

It’s the July 4th weekend, so we’ve extended our events through early next week with some fun ways to help celebrate the holiday.  

1. Healthy Living Series

Where/When: 11 Davis Ave., East Garden City, 516-224-5800, LICM.org, Saturday, July 2 @ 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Each week there are fun activities planned and exercised that bring a section of the USDA’s Food Pyramid to life, helping parents and children make healthy living choices. Meet in the backyard, inclement weather meet in the inner lobby, for all ages.

Pricing: Free with museum admission.

2.  Film -

 Where/When: , 225 South Oyster Bay Rd., Syosset, Friday July 1, @ 2p .m.

 Why Go: See the animated file of two bears, Yogi and Booboo who go around stealing picnic baskets, but when they find out the jungle is about to be logged, they try to help save it.

Pricing: Free.

3.  Family Fun Day

Where/When: Belmont Park Race Track, 2150 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont, 516-488-6000, www.nyra.com, Sunday July 3 @ noon- 4 p.m.

Why Go: Carnival games, a petting zoo, face painting and more, held in Belmont’s picnic area.

Pricing: Free, except for pony rides which cost $1.

4.  Independence Day Celebration, 4th of July at Sagamore Hill

Where/When: Theodore Roosevelt’s House, 20 Sagamore Hill Road, Oyster Bay, NY, : 516-922-4788, Monday July 4 @ 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Independence Day was an important holiday for Theodore Roosevelt, who often spoke at the festivities in Oyster Bay and gathered his extended family and friends at Sagamore Hill for a day of celebration. The National Park Service and the Friends of Sagamore Hill invite you to bring your family and friends and dress in your patriotic attire to join in the day of festivities.

Pricing : Free.

5.  Celebrate 4th of July Story Time

Where/When: Barnes & Noble, 91 Old Country Rd. Carle Place, 516-741-9850,  Tuesday July 5t @ 11 a.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the 4th of July with stories related to the 4th. Have children dress in red, white and blue.
