Grab and Go Kids Planner: June 10-12

Here are some fun events for the kids this weekend.

If you are wondering what to do with the kids this weekend, we’ve come up with some ideas indoors and out that are both fun and educational.

1. Family Nature Adventures: Amazing Amphibians

Where/When: Bailey Arboretum, Bayville Rd. and Feeks Lane, Lattingtown,  516-571-8020 baileyarboretum.org, Sunday June 12 @ 2-3 p.m.

Why Go: Go the Arboretum to check out the frogs and salamanders in the ponds, streams and forests.

2. Family Photo Day

Where/When: Nassau County Museum of Art,  1 Museum Dr. (off of Northern Blvd) Roslyn Harbor, 516-484-9337, nassaumuseum.org, Sunday June 12 @ noon-3 p.m.

Why Go: Museum docents will conduct interactive family tours, and children and their family members can draw family portraits. Each family group may have photographs taken of individuals or the group.

Pricing: Free with museum admission.

3. Furry Fun Science

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., East Garden City, 516-224-5800,  http://licm.org., Sunday June 12 @ 2-4 p.m.

Why Go: Children of all ages can explore the function of fur on the bodies of mammals. Join in the discussion of the special properties of a polar bear’s fur, play a fur matching game and crate a furry animal craft.

Pricing: Free with museum admission.

4. Secret Garden Roses

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury NY, 516-333-0048, http://oldwestburygardens.org., Saturday June 11 @  12 – 2 p.m.

Why Go: Children gather in the Rose Garden to view cut flowers, decode secret messages hidden in their petals and create their own mysterious memo.

Pricing: $10, $5 ages 7-17, 6 and younger free.

5. Pirate School with Billy Bones

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., East Garden City, 516-224-5800, http://licm.org., Sunday June 12 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: Children ages 5 and up can join Billy Bones as he teaches zany lessons on how to stand, talk, laugh, eat and sing like a boisterous buccaneer, audience participation, magic, music, bubbles, and puppets.

Pricing: $4.00 with museum admission.
