A weekend planner for the kids.

This weekend offers a variety of activities for the kids as we welcome in October.

1. Film -

Why Go: A comedy-adventure that centers on Blu, a flightless macaw who acts more human than bird. When Blu, the last of his kind, discovers there's another, and that she's a she, he embarks on an adventure to magical Rio. There, he meets Jewel and a menagerie of vivid characters who help Blu fulfill his dream and learn to fly.

Why Go: Children are invited to create an autumn inspire mixed-media scarecrow puppet on the terrace, all ages welcome.

3.Yo Gabba Gabba

Where/When: Nassau Coliseum 1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale, 800-745-3000, Saturday, Oct. 1 @ 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Why Go: Performance of the children’s television show, entertainers perform live on stage.

Pricing: $25, $40, $50, & $75.

4. Natural Mask Making

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury, 516-333-0048, Saturday, Oct. 1, @ noon.

Why Go: Whether fearsome or friendly, children will love the tricks and treats of Halloween mask making at the Gardens. An afternoon of hands-on where you canl create wearable art from natural materials. Ideal for kindergarten and up.

Pricing: Free.

5. One Hundred Eggs - Dragons and Fairies Series

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave. Garden City, 516-224-5800, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 29 and 30 @ 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Dragons are a symbol of power and nobility and fairies are beauty and grace, according to an ancient Vietnamese legend, a dragon lord fell in love with a fairy and eventually created the kingdom of Vietnam. Celebrate the culture of Vietnam and create dragons and fairies.
