Thursday evening brought "The Sound of Music" from Grumman Studios in Bethpage, on a sound stage that once housed part of the NASA's space program. 

The broadcast starred Carrie Underwood as Maria and a cast of more than 60 performers who have been in rehearsal for about three months for this live televised performance of the beloved Rogers and Hammerstein musical. 

The production was the the first live network TV telecast of an entire Broadway show since 1957’s “Cinderella,” the Daily News reported.

The performance includedone native Long Islander: She is Southold's Ella Watts, 13, who has been cast as "Luisa," one of the von Trapp children. (See our story about Ella here.)

A Rego Park man and his wife won a $7.1 million jackpot from the Sept. 4 drawing, according to the New York Lottery.

Kam Sing Wong, 59, and Perla Wong, 59, had been playing the Lottery for more than 20 years and randomly selected numbers for September’s drawing.

The couple claimed the winning ticket on Oct. 30 at the Lottery’s recently closed Garden City customer service center.

The Wongs chose to each receive a one-time lump sum payment of $2.1 million, which they will use to buy a bigger house and a new Lexus.

The ticket was purchased at the Margaret Newsstand on 63rd Drive in Rego Park.
