New Chef at Glen Cove Mansion Has Illustrious Past

The Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center recently welcomed Kevin Palm as their new award-winning executive chef.

Palm has trained under master chefs in Sicily, as well as under noted Chef Gisella Isidori in New York City and with Chef Lidia Bastianich at Felidia, the acclaimed Manhattan East Side restaurant. In his 20-year career he has worked with oted properties as the Omni Hotel at CNN Center, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, the Stouffer Waverly Hotel Atlanta, New York Marriott Marquis, the Opryland Hotel and Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort.

Get Ready for Oyster Festival

Plans are underway for the 30th anniversary of the Oyster Festival, now just five weeks away.

Public officials and dignitaries are announcing details of the big weekend, set for Oct. 19 and 20th. Several tall ships and the ever-popular FDNY fireboat John J. Harvey will be attending this year. Hundreds of vendors will be present along with scores of food concessions.

Solar Carport Unveiled at Farmingdale State

Farmingdale State College unveiled a carport/charging station Monday, a futuristic solar powered energy center.

The carport is a major component of the $24 million Long Island Smart Energy Corridor funded by $12 million from the U.S. Department of Energy, with institutional commitments matching that amount, college officials said.

The facility - the first of its kind within SUNY - is the result of collaboration with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), the U.S. Department of Energy, and Stony Brook University.

Farmingdale’s “Green Growth Initiative”  was developed by President Hubert Keen as part of the college’s mission to develop the college as a Model of Green Technology. Learn more.

Lavine Seeks Support for Alzheimer's Research Bill

State Assemblyman Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, has submitted a bill that would ask New Yorkers to support a $1 billion bond to fund Alzheimer’s research.
