The summer combines exciting environmental and social service oriented volunteer projects, adventure, recreation and tons of fun! Why community service? Teens are exposed to the diversity of the greater community and engage in unique activities that help build strong character, a sense of responsibility, and an interest in helping others. CSE fulfills many local high school community service mandates, other school club and organization requirements. It is also an important college admission criteria for many better colleges and universities. CSE participants perform over 60 hours of community service during the full summer program. Under the supervision of the JCC’s top educators, social workers and experienced youth professionals, CSE participants are involved in more than two community service projects and two recreational trips each week. 5. Thomas School of Horsemanship

250 Round Swamp Rd, Melville

Ages 3-15

"Thomas School of Horsemanship was founded in 1943 by Bill and Fran Thomas, and in 1950, they purchased and developed a stretch of potato fields in Melville. From those humble beginnings their dream was realized: A place where families can enjoy all the gifts that horses have to offer, a place where children can spend their summers riding, playing, learning, and growing, and a place for a supportive community to share in the joys of horsemanship.

The gifts that horses have to offer:

  • Caring for a horse creates a sense of Responsibility
  • Interacting with a living being teaches Respect
  • Creating a bond with a kind, gentle creature shows Compassion
  • Being in control of an animal larger than yourself grants Confidence
  • And the shared love for horses builds Friendships that last

There are programs specialized for the different age groups."

Hofstra Sports Academy Camp is for campers whose interests are strictly athletic, and are supervised by Hofstra's well-known, NCAA coaching staff. For children entering second through 12th grades, we offer sports academy camps in band camp, co-ed baseball, girls' basketball, boys' basketball, boys' cross country, lacrosse, softball, co-ed soccer, dance and cheer camp.

In both camps, our goal is to assist in the development of the whole child-educationally, athletically, artistically, and socially. We strive to teach self-respect, courage and responsibility, and our caring staff builds upon our campers’ self-esteem, self-confidence and character as they move from childhood to young adulthood."
