Vines & Canines
Events for pets come few and far between but starting at 11am Saturday morning, Martha Clara Vineyards is offering up this event where you can walk your leashed dog through the vineyard with one of the winemakers. A donation of a non-perishable dog food item is requested - it will be going to the local shelter foundations. Also, from 2pm to 5pm stick around for the live music from Second Chance. Going out east will certainly be worth the trip, especially for this free happening.
Address: 6025 Sound Avenue, Riverhead.
Recommended for children ages three through nine, the Tilles Center will be featuring a musical called Strega Nona about a friendly witch who tries to cure her Italian town of its ills. Then when a big lug selfishly tries to steal her powers, he can’t turn off her magic pasta pot and the whole town may end up engulfed in noodles. Based on the children's book by Tomie DePaola, come by to find out what happens and enjoy the songs and scenery, too. Starts Saturday 2pm at the Concert Hall. See website for tickets and prices.
720 Northern Boulevard, Greenvale
For Sunday, Jan. 9:
Free tickets are still available for the Folk for Folks performance at 2pm held in the theater at the Syosset Public Library. Singer-songwriter, Jo Williamson will be strumming her guitar and playing music from her album, Wake on the Hudson. Included will be some well known hits by Joni Mitchell. Ending with a discussion about iconic figures in the folk music genre, this event will surely be a crowd pleaser so pick up the tickets at the library before they are all gone.
Address: 225 South Oyster Bay Road, Syosset.
Rhythm with Three
The Town of Oyster Bay is offering a free concert from their Distinguished Artists Series. The Hicksville Public Library hosts the 2 p.m. concert which will feature SEGUE, a Latin American dance and music trio.
Address: 169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville.
