Patch Weekend Planner

Instead of unloading snow, there will be loads to do this weekend - check out these fun and fab events, where there is something for everyone.

Are you wondering what to do for this weekend? Patch has planned it out for you and the best part…some of the events are FREE.  Here are nine things to do that are either located right here in Syosset, or a town or so away:

A Weekend of Workshops

Home Depot in Syosset is offering FREE workshops all weekend long:  On Saturday from 11am until noon is Tile: The Right Looks and Tools for the Job.  They’ve got you covered.  There will be instruction on how to cut and install tile safely including how to identify the right tools and tile solutions for your floors, countertops, and back-splashes.

An hour later from 1pm until 2pm is Bath Makeover: Renew & Redo Your Bath for Less.  You will learn how to install a new vanity, medicine cabinet and lighting fixture over the sink as well as tips on upgrading with shower rods, curtains, towel rods, and cabinet hardware. 

The next day on Sunday at 1pm until 2pm is Closet & Storage Solutions.  Get effective organizing strategies and hear about the variety of storage solutions available at the store.  Immediately afterwards will be Replacing & Refreshing Cabinets from 2pm until 3pm.  This workshop will give you information about the options available for updating your cabinetry.    Sign up at:  http://www.homeimproverclub.com/workshops.aspx?Type=3#

Gamers Gig

Come to the Tilles Center to get your game on for Video Games Live: Bonus Round.   This unique experience features a live orchestra with composer Tommy Tallarico, a chorus, big-screen displays and audience participation.  You will hear the music from many popular games such as classics like Zelda, Frogger, Mario and Halo as well as segments from Street Fighter II, Megaman, Guitar Hero, Tron and more.  Saturday at 8pm. Soledad from Smithtown

The Book Revue in Huntington invites you to attend a book signing and discussion with Soledad O’brien at 7pm on Saturday.  Her memoir called, The Next Big Story: My Journey Through the Land of Possibilities is about her challenges being raised in a homogeneous town on Long Island, her academic successes, as well as her rewarding career in journalism.

 A Crooner’s Coming

On Saturday at 7:30 Syosset Library is hosting a FREE performance with Jerry Cardone called Old Brown Eyes Sings Ole Blue Eyes.  If you close your eyes you may think Sinatra entered the building. Tickets may still be available or try it stand-by.

Down by the Bay

At 8pm until 11pm enjoy FREE music on Saturday with solo guitarist and vocalist, Acoustic Dave, also known as Dave Kotliar.  Come to Jack Halyards American Bar & Grill sit back and listen to classic, progressive, and soft rock.

A Roll in the Hay Barn

Ok it might not be a roll but it will probably be meditation if you attend the Seven-in-Heaven Singles event called Yoga, Beauty & Breakfast.  Starting at 8:15am on Sunday in the Planting Fields Hay Barn, begin your practice with Kundalini yoga instructor, Elaina Marku.  Afterwards, it’s your choice of either a foot massage or facial, followed by a healthy veggie breakfast in the Garden Cafe.  Everyone is welcome but you must pre-pay and reserve a spot.  Click here for more information:  http://www.7-in-heaven.com/ or call: 631-592-9804.

Wander Over

The Wand’ring Minstrels, leading performers from the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players Company, will be performing a lively and spirited FREE concert on Sunday at 2pm at the Locust Valley Library.  This is part of the Distinguished Artists Series brought to you by the Town of Oyster Bay.

 Dine at the Diner

Singles with Style: Dating with Dignity is a singles group for 48 and over looking to move forward after loss.  They will be meeting on Sunday at 3:30pm at On Parade Diner.  Cost:  $7, not including food.

Meet a Super Bowl XXVII Champ 

Alan Veingrad originally with the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys now plays for a divine team, the Chabad-Lubavitch.  There will be a meet and greet with him at the Chai Center on Sunday at 7:30pm to schmooze, sign autographs and footballs, and discuss his journey from football to religion.  Refreshments will be served.  $15 for members, $18 for non-members.
