Photos: Construction Heats Up on Jackson Ave

Construction, asphalt, and traffic heat up on Jackson Avenue with the arrival of summer temperatures.

Temperatures soared in the third week of Jackson Avenue construction but tempers stayed relatively cool as Syosset residents dealt with road work.

Jim Tafuro, a longtime Jackson Avenue resident, thinks the workers have done a good job so far.

"They have dealt with the heat and unruly drivers, and clean up well afterwards," he said.

Tom, a resident on one of Jackson Avenue's cross streets, held a different view.

"It's loud during the day, and quite narrow and tricky navigating the roadway during construction hours," he said.

Like each and every resident and business owner, the pictures we took this week tell their own story.

The various ditches and earth cuts where new sidewalks are being installed were clearly marked, but could be made more visible for public safety reasons. Drainage pipes, drainage basin curbs, and backhoes were spotted loosely roped off. At night, some of the signs were laying flat on the side of the road which could present a trip and fall hazard to an unsuspecting pedestrian.

Take a look and see what you think.
