Saving in Syosset: Recycle, Get Paid

Here are the best deals of the week, in and around Syosset.

Each week, we scour local sources to come up with the best deals for local families.

This week we're letting you know about a great discount for teachers, deals at Adventureland and great offers on back-to-school supplies.

  1. Prime Time Butcher is celebrating teachers! On Saturday, Aug. 27, all teachers will receive 30% off your entire purchase. Prime Time Butcher is located at 8045 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury.
  2. Looking for something to do with the kids before school starts? Sign up to receive weekly promotions and specials via e-mail by subscribing for Adventureland’s newsletters or text messages. Adventureland is located at 2245 Broadhollow Road (Route 110) in Farmingdale.
  3. If you are wondering what store is going to replace Borders in your life after their closing, try Barnes & Noble. Located just east of Syosset on Route 110 in Huntington Station, you can enroll your kids in the Barnes & Noble Kids' Club for free. Register online and start earning rewards right away – for every $100 you spend on kids’ items in stores and online, you will receive a $5 reward via e-mail. On their birthday, your child will receive a free cupcake from the café and you’ll receive a monthly e-mail with even more savings. Plus, just for joining, you’ll receive a coupon via e-mail good for 30% off list price of any one kids’ book, toy or game.
  4. Do you have an extra working refrigerator or freezer in your basement or garage that you’re not using? Now you can recycle it through LIPA and save on your monthly electric bill, plus receive $35 for doing so, and they will even pick it up, free of charge. There are a few guidelines such as you must be a LIPA residential customer and the appliance must be picked up from your billing address. It also must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet, manufactured prior to 2011, plugged in and operating at the time of pickup. Customers are limited to two appliances per year. To schedule your free pickup online, click here.
  5. Whether you have or haven’t done your back-to-school shopping yet, stop by Staples for some great deals like 1-subject 70-sheet notebooks for $.01, school glue or pencil erasers for $.05, pencil box for $.50 or a pack of 2 Sharpie permanent markers for $.25. There are many more deals to be had - stop by Staples at 442 South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville.
