Syosset Fires Up For Dragon Training

The Syosset Chamber of Commerce recently presented movie night, featuring the film How to Train Your Dragon.

The family film "How to Train Your Dragon" fired up Syosset’s third annual on Thursday, Aug. 4, outside the

Sponsors included Astoria, Dantona Industry, , Syosset Equities, My Bright Idea,Southwestern Grill, and Several Syosset kids recited the pledge to start the event.

“The Town of Oyster Bay and the decided to jointly do an event for the community,” said chamber President, Danielle Delgrosso. “We hope people will come out with their family and have fun. It’s a night of summer fun.”

Moe’s and Zio’s provided refreshments, and free ice cream was available. Councilman Chris Coschignano personally paid for the ice cream.

“It’s a family-oriented event," Coschignano said. “I think the partnership between the Town of Oyster Bay and the Chamber of Commerce really makes it work.”

The film depicts Hiccup, a boy in a Viking village who is seen as useless because he has yet to kill a dragon and live up to his father, the head of the Vikings. During a dragon raid, he shoots the most deadly dragon, a night fury, but no one sees or believes it.

The dragon survives, and Hiccup eventually becomes good friends with him and learns there is much more to the dragons than he previously thought.

The response from the crowd was generally positive.

“I think the community events that the Town of Oyster Bay sponsors are valuable,” said Syosset resident Cathi Horan. “It really helps to keep families together and is one of the reasons why we love living in Syosset.”
