Tele-Search

Did you leave it on the LIRR, at Mim's restaurant, or under the sofa cushion? If you're like most folks who have lost their phone one time or another, here's some quick tips to track it down.

How many times have you misplaced your phone and searched everywhere, including the garbage?  Nowadays with all the private information that is stored and the dependence there is on this small device—to some, it’s comparable to a life-line—the last thing you want is to find that it’s gone missing.

We all know the simple trick of calling your lost mobile with the help of a friend’s phone, but if you're working solo and lost either your cell or land-line receiver try out these websites.  As you enter your phone number, immediately your lost phone will start ringing.  It's also just plain fun to try out.  And for those who have relinquished home phones, these sites will be invaluable.

1.  Stick an adhesive return address label on the back of the phone and include your home phone number, hopefully someone will call you or deliver it to your doorstep.

2.  Try texting  or IM-ing your phone and perhaps the the person who picks it up will respond and arrange a return.

3.  In your phone’s address book, create a contact that reads:  “For lost phone call here” and within the fields input a few phone numbers such as your home, direct-dial business line, and a family member.  So if someone should look up names in your cell they may see this one listed.

Although not always available to download on every phone, there are some FREE hi-tech phone-finder apps.

If you own an Android phone, this theft-proof service provided by iTag is a must.  Literally, they thought of everything. Soon to be offered with other platforms, iTag has the ability to track your lost phone, remotely lock it, and back up stored data that can be erased all via computer, and that's only a fraction of what it can do.
