The Great Escape: Fishing at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery

Here's our weekly hourly getaway for moms and dads who may need some time for themselves.

Today's jaunt is Catch & Keep fishing at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium. You can clear your head by the clear water of this tidal raceway everyday except Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Generally, there are two sessions:  10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.  For the price of admission plus $5, you can cast away and lure some local rainbow and brook trout that were hatched at their facility. Either bring your own equipment or rent from the hatchery. You can also purchase bait.

In the summer they add more sessions during the weekend so check the website for more information and times.  There is no catch and release. All fish caught, priced at $4 per fish, must be kept.

Besides fishing you can witness a fish feeding demo, tour their facility, view the local aquatic life, or just enjoy the lovely grounds.
