What's Open, Closed on MLK Day

Monday marks a national holiday to honor the fallen civil rights leader.

Today, Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a national holiday.

It commemorates the life of the famed Civil Rights leader who was gunned down by an assassin in Memphis in 1968. The third Monday of January has been a National Holiday since 1986 to observe Dr. King's birthday (which is actually Jan. 15.)

Coincidentally, the holiday falls on the date set for the public inauguration of President Barack Obama. The inaugural will be nationally televised on all the major networks Monday.
