Yom Kippur Services for Friday

Yom Kippur begins Friday at sundown. Here are a list of public Yom Kippur services in the area.

The most solemn day on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur begins Friday Oct. 7 at sunset (10 Tishrei.) Many area synagogues are holding services Saturday that are open to families and the community.

Some local businesses will close early Friday and remain closed through Saturday.

Here is a list of public events at our various synagogues and community centers, with links to the various temples' web sites as well as links to our event listings.

Second-Day Yom Kippur service is open to the entire community. Free and no ticket required; 10 a.m.

Mid Island Y JCC:

Oct. 7, Erev Yom Kippur:  JCC Closes at 3 p.m.

Oct. 8, Yom Kippur:  JCC Closed.

Plainview Jewish Center

Yom Kippur family service is Saturday Oct. 8, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Temple Chaverim

Yom Kippur children's service Oct. 8, at 2 p.m.

Yizkor Service at noon Saturday, Oct. 8.

Young families are encouraged to come in for complimentary tickets to the children's services, but no ticket is necessary for Yizkor.
