Armory Art Show in Syosset Thursday

Exhibit that astonished the country discussed at library Thursday.

The Syosset Library will explore a critical time in American art on Thursday.

The Armory Show Art Lecture, headed by Professor Mary Vahey, will explore The Armory Show 1913, an international exhibition of modern art that astonished Americans.

For a country that had grown accustomed to realism in art, the experimental styles of Fauvism, Cubism, and Futurism was shocking. The show inspired American artists to create their own language of art. The exhibit traveled the country. An exhibit is currently on display at the New York Historical Society.

Head to Syosset Public Library at 2 p.m. for the free lecture. Call the library ahead as some events have limited capacities.
