OLD BETHPAGE VILLAGE HOSTS ANNUAL MODEL “A” FORD SHOW

Old Bethpage Village will host the 39th Annual Model “A” Ford Day on Sunday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event, showcasing more than 60 historic Model A’s, will take place on the Village Fairgrounds, which is a re-creation of the old Mineola Fairgrounds. (In the event that rain forces a cancellation, the event will take place on June 26.)

The Model A, which replaced the Model T, first appeared on America ’s roads in 1927, and production continued in various styles and colors through 1931, when it was replaced by the Model B. During that period, nearly 5 million Model A’s were produced in the U.S.

The Ford Motor Co. Website describes the Model A as having been “more powerful, more luxurious and equipped with more features than its predecessor” and as a response to “a more affluent consumer market.” New features on the Model A included hydraulic shock absorbers, a safety glass windshield, bumpers, automatic windshield wipers, tilt-beam headlights and a Bendix self-starter.
