Grab and Go Kids Planner: July 22-24

Check out some fun stuff for the kids this weekend.

The weekend promises to be another hot one, so once again the idea is to keep the kids cool and entertained. We’ve come up with some ideas for both.

1. Children’s Theater: The Jungle Book

Where/When: Carriage House Theater, Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Rd., Centerport, 516-293-0674, arenaplayers.org, weekly Saturday and Sunday @ 2 p.m. through August 28.

Why Go: See the production of “Jungle Book” performed by the Arena Player’s Children Theater. Using audience participation, this classic story features a jungle child who was raised by wolves and lives in the jungle with animal friends.

Pricing: $10 adults, $8 children, free under 3

2. Concert: Recess Monkey

Where/When: , 11 Davis Ave., East Garden City, 516-224-5800, LICM.org, Sunday July 24 @ 2 p.m.

Why Go: Recess Monkey is a band of school teacher rockers from Seattle who are making the LICM Theater debut, family friendly musical performance for all ages.

Pricing: Free.

3. NFL Kiwanis Football Clinic

Where/When: , Merrick Rd., Massapequa. 516-795-7911, Saturday July 23 @ 9 a.m-1 p.m.

Why Go: Former NFL player Gary Baldinger hosts clinic for kids aged 6-14, non-contact, non-competitive, with positive environment. Wear shorts, cleats or sneakers, check in at 8 a.m-8:45 a.m., rain date July 24.

Pricing: $40 in advance, $45 day of clinic

4. Garden Explorers

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd, Old Westbury, 516-333-0048, oldwestburygardens.org, weekly Fridays through August 12 @ 4-5 p.m.

Why Go: Children can learn about animals native to Long Island through hands on activities and hikes, ages 6-12, please register.

Pricing: $10 per class.

5. “Go Dog Go”

Where/When: , 250 Main Street, Northport, 631-261-2900, www.engemantheater.com, Saturdays @ 11 a.m., Sundays @ 10:30 a.m. through August 28.

Why Go: See a live performance, part of the youth theater series of “Go Dog Go,”  a children’s book, The book describes the actions and interactions of a group of highly mobile  dogs who operate cars and other conveyances in pursuit of work, play, and a final mysterious goal: a dog party.
