Name Board Craft program a hit Thursday at Syosset Public Library.

If you are a parent looking to instill fun ideas while teaching your children to preserve the earth, then the name board craft workshop at the was the place to be Thursday.

Educating kids on ways to go green while making a recycled material craft project, Leslie Sattler from Green Earth Craft used wallpaper, magazines and paper boards that would have been thrown away to help the kids create works of art.

"The class is about teaching kids to use recycled crafts," said Sattler. "The kids make boards with their names on it or they can choose to make a board with something important to them on it."

She discussed the importance of being environmentally friendly while the kids cut, pasted and created their name boards.

"I want to put into their minds to recycle and take care of this earth," said Sattler. "We don't want all this stuff going into the garbage which can often end up in the ocean and hurt the animals. Do you know what a plastic bag looks like to a turtle? A jellyfish."

With the class offering one of a kind go green creativity at its finest, the children were more than happy to showcase their environmentally friendly pieces of art.

Siblings Stephanie, 7, and Alexis Emanuel, 9,  were enthusiastic about creating their boards, it was the perfect opportunity to showcase their favorite things.

"I love American Doll; I have four dolls. American Dolls are the best," said Stephanie, while Alexis shared her fondness for dance. "I like to dance ballet and I put a big heart on my board to show how much I love it," she said.

Excited about his name board craft, Maanuv Allu, 8, proudly displayed his project which was covered with pictures of footballs, the ocean and robots.

"It was a fun class," he said.  "I liked putting my most favorite things on the board."

The love of food inspired ten year old Brian Bertran, "I love food, and I especially love Hershey's candy," he said.

Offering workshops at daycamps and libraries throughout Long Island, Sattler's creativity is endless when it comes to kids. Her green earth craft ideas include making desk organizers out of cereal boxes. Sattler began her Green Earth Craft business as a crafty mother who wanted the future of her children and grandchildren to be a beautiful place to live in.

Her ultimate goal? Help the planet while having fun with kids.

"Working with the kids is great," said Sattler. "We have fun and I show them the importance of taking care of this earth."
