Nassau Hosting Big Concert as Hurricane Benefit

Nassau County is staging a big "Concert in the Park – Nassau Helping Nassau" to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims.

The concert, being produced by Bobby G – a Wantagh resident and 9/11 first responder, will be held at Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park on Saturday, June 8 from noon to 9:30 p.m.  Musical performances begin with the head of the No. 1 Billy Joel cover band "Big Shot, Michael DelGuidice. 

Performances also include Uppercut - the Ultimate Horn Powered Band, Five Stone, That 70s Band, Rapid Fire, legendary Beatles Cover Band Strawberry Fields, The Slim Kings featuring longtime Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto, Killer Joe and the Lido Soul Revue, the County Line Country Band and Disco Unlimited.  

  • Cost: Residents attend free; a $10 donation per person is welcome to benefit the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund which assists victims of the storm.

Art Museum Presents Works of Alex Katz

Nassau County Museum of Art presents a solo exhibition of works by Alex Katz, one of America’s most important living artists. The show, which includes selections from the Whitney Museum of American Art, opens on June 29 and remains on view through Oct. 13. 

This exhibition includes early landscapes and collages, as well as the enormous and brilliantly-colored portraits of family and friends that are a hallmark of the artist’s career. Since 1951, Katz's work has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions throughout this country and internationally. 

  • Cost: Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62 and above) and $4 for students with ID and children aged 4 to 12.

Finding Nirvana in the Kitchen at CAC

Food takes on a spiritual dimension in the film from German director Doris Dorrie. "How to Cook Your Life" centers on Zen Master Edward Brown and his quest to unite Buddhism and cooking. Live via Skype: Zen Master, chef, and Tassajara Bread Book author Edward Espe Brown. The documentary and live chat takes place Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m.
