Natalie Portman Wins Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role

The Syosset High School alum won Sunday night at the 83rd annual Academy Awards for her performance in the film Black Swan.

Syosset High School graduate Natalie Portman won the Oscar Sunday night for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film Black Swan. 

Portman beat out Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right),  Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) and Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine) to take home the award. 

This was Portman's second Oscar nomination and first win after being nominated in 2005 for her performance in the drama Closer. She  for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama back in January as well as a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Closer in 2005.

Portman, known by her Syosset classmates and close friends as Natalie Hershlag, graduated from in 1999 and then went on to attend and graduate from Harvard in 2003. Some of her former classmates as being very friendly and down to earth during her time in Syosset. 

Portman's next film, Your Highness, is to be released in April. She has also been cast in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of Thor
