North Shore Synagogue Has a New Cantor

Maria Dubinsky brings a varied background to new job.

A singer and former solider is the newest cantor at North Shore Synagogue.

Among her many duties, Russian native Maria Dubinsky will lead the senior choir. 

 "Her diverse background and dedication to Judaism will bring a new dimension to our community," said Jim Garfinkel, president of the synagogue. "We are excited to have her become part of the North Shore family."

Cantor earned a degree in vocal performance from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, and also served in the Israel Defense Forces. She was invested as a cantor by the Hebrew Union College: Jewish Institute of Religion in May.  

Cantor Dubinsky lives in Brooklyn with her husband Arcady and daughter Maya.
