Residents Have a Blast at Music Under the Stars

"Body Heat" rocks the neighborhood at the latest concert held at Syosset-Woodbury Park.

A little rain didn’t stop Town of Oyster Bay residents from getting their groove on at the latest Music Under the Stars event, held at on Wednesday.

is a free concert series hosted six nights a week for five weeks during the summer at various Town of Oyster Bay park facilities. Town residents can set up folding chairs or blankets and watch a free musical show on summer evenings.  

Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Community and Youth Services, Pat Beckerle, spoke highly of the program.

“It provides residents who don’t travel away over the summer an enjoyable evening,” Beckerle said. “The program’s been running for at least twenty or twenty five years; it’s great.”

“Music Under the Stars is a perfect complement to the ‘stay-cation,’” said Jim Stefanich, the Town of Oyster Bay’s Receiver of Taxes. “It’s very important for the town to provide such activities during this time of financial difficulties.”

Residents huddled under umbrellas as the evening kicked off a bit early due to a light drizzle. The night opened with a warm welcome from Supervisor John Venditto, along with a superb rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Syosset-Woodbury Park’s pre-schoolers performed “What a Wonderful World” in sign language, to the delight of many audience members.

The show featured Body Heat, a Long Island-based band that plays lively, upbeat music for all ages. Audience members clapped along to hits by the Black Eyed Peas, Barry White, Taio Cruz and other popular musicians.

Glenn Adien, a resident from Plainview, thought that the show was “fantastic.”

“I’d never heard of the band before, but from hearing them warm up and play the show they seemed wonderful," Adien said.
