Syosset Alum Natalie Portman Nominated for Oscar

The "Black Swan" star needs to beat out talented performers such as Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams to win Best Actress.

Natalie Portman, a 1999 graduate of was nominated by the Academy Tuesday morning for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Black Swan. The nomination comes a week after for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. 

Portman, born in Israel, moved to the U.S. when she was three and lived with her parents in Washington, D.C. They relocated to Connecticut and finally settled in Syosset in 1990.

At the age of 13, she made her film debut in The Professional. It was in 1999 when she received worldwide acclaim as Queen Amidala in the popular prequel Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
