Americana to Become 'Toast & Tapas'

Staff announces new plans for downtown Syosset restaurant.

Staff announced on Facebook Monday night that Americana Kitchen & Bar would soon be no more.

In a heartfelt letter sent out on their Facebook page, staff said they would be closing Americana and transferring control of the property to Toast & Company.

"Like so many restaurants before us (at this location), we have failed to make the 516 Americana the rousing success we had hoped it would be," Americana staff wrote.

"We have however, succeeded in learning (by listening and observing) what our community wants, and have ceded control to a successful operator [Toast & Company in Huntington], that has allowed us to keep much of our concept intact, while enhancing it with theirs. The result will be TOAST & TAPAS."

The new restaurant will feature "creative and delicious breakfasts and lunches, an innovative tapas menu on Friday and Saturday nights…and all the comfort food" patrons have come to love, wrote the staff.

"Thank you for the privilege of serving you…The name and concept will be changed, but the spirit to bring some fun, and good food to Syosset lives on," the message concluded.

Details of the transition have not yet been released. According to the Facebook post, all bands that have been booked will be playing live as scheduled at Americana, and live music will continue when the eatery becomes Toast & Tapas.

Americana Kitchen & Bar opened in March 2012 and has been a Syosset staple for activities from nightlife to Syosset Chamber of Commerce meetings. Restaurant owners kept a similar name to the previous restaurant, 516 American Kitchen, which

Toast & Co also has a restaurant in Huntington that is delicious! They will make a good addition to Syosset.

How many different restaurants has that location been? I liked it when it was Friendly's

516 was perfect the way it was. As far as the new place, more "from the freezer" corporate food in Long Island (especially Syosset) is not a plus. Thanks 516 for many a great meal: best fish tacos, homemade sour cream, and wait staff.

Here is why all restaurants have failed there. Just north is very upscale neighborhoods and south is middle class. No restaurant has had enough broad appeal to both demagraphics.

>>>Here is why all restaurants have failed there. Just north is very upscale neighborhoods and south is middle class. No restaurant has had enough broad appeal to both demagraphics.<<< Nah...I think the problem is that none of these restaurant owners "get" that neither the upscale folks on the north shore nor the poor slobs like me south of the tracks want to throw down $11.95 for a couple of eggs and two or three forks full of potatoes. Stop trying to create a live music or bar scene in downtown Syosset. It's not going to happen with Huntington right down the road. Just serve some good food that's affordable for a family of four and the crowds will come.

We always loved 516 - good food, good people on staff and perfect for the family. I would rather go to Syosset than Huntington anytime!!!

Something not right with all these changes.. Anyone else think it is strange, it has changed names 10 different times?

Lots of restaurants in syosset. Every other store almost. If the food is good, the people are nice, customers will come. I went to 516 once. I ate my salad and at the bottom of the bowl was plastic shards. Never went back. Ditch the bar and live music. This is not a party town.
