Bites Nearby: Johnny Rockets

Food and song, all in one.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Johnny Rockets

Overview: This restaurant looks like it came right out of the movie Grease when Danny and Sandy were on their first date.

Decor: The place is bright with white walls, white ceiling and black and white tiles. The booth seats and chairs were covered in red leather while the tables were made out of metal. They have a neon sign in the wall saying ‘Hamburgers * Shakes * Fries’ There are also framed pictures of old Coca-Cola advertisements.

The Drinks:

  • Soda's include Coca-Cola, Sprite, Root Beer and Diet Coke.
  • Lemonade, Iced Tea, Water, Milk.
  • Shakes and Malts in Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry (Deluxe shakes have other flavors like strawberry banana, cookies & cream, and Butterfinger.
  • Soda Pop Floats.

Appetizers:

  • Cheese Fries
  • Onion Rings
  • Chili Bowl
  • Rocket Wings
  • Salad

Entrees:

  • The Original: This is a burger that tastes phenomenal. It has lettuce, tomato, chopped onion, relish, pickles, mustard and mayonnaise. The burger is juicy and tender, not one single bit of it burnt. The bun is toasted to perfection without losing the softness of the bread. The lettuce and tomato are crunchy and fresh, the pickle gives it a little zing.
  • Grilled Cheese: It’s an American favorite and a favorite at this restaurant as well. It can be made with a variety of cheeses (Cheddar, American or Swiss) and your choice of bread (white, wheat, etc). The bread is toasted with butter giving it a smooth taste and the cheese is melted just enough to stick on the bread without melting too much or burning. They cut the sandwich in half diagonally which brings the nostalgia back to childhood days.

Desserts:

  • The Perfect Brownie
  • Super Sundae
  • Apple Pie
  • Shakes

Service: Not only is the wait staff punctual and friendly bringing out the food, they are also entertaining. When they aren’t writing down orders, refilling drinks or bringing out food, the wait staff puts on music and dances in the aisles as well as sings. They are always upbeat and know how to have a good time while working. It brings a smile to my face every time I see them dancing and the kids that go to the restaurant loves it as well.

Signature Dish: Route 66 Burger - The onions and mushrooms on this burger makes the taste really unique and delicious.
