Cash in With Local Biz Reward Programs

Signing up can bring savings that keep coming.

Given the current state of our economy, it's clear that businesses large and small are doing whatever it takes to increase sales.  It's been said that it's easier to keep a customer than to find a new one, and many businesses seem to be following this school of thought, implementing programs that reward customers and give them an incentive to return.  Here are some Syosset-area businesses offering programs that customers can join for free to receive rewards and special offers.

Sign up at Borders (425 Jericho Tpke.) for membership in the Borders Rewards program.  In exchange for providing a current e-mail address, members receive $5 Border Bucks for every $150 spent annually on qualifying purchases (in-store or online at Borders.com).  After registering, members also receive exclusive savings offers as well as a special birthday "gift" and can opt in to Borders Rewards Perks, which will periodically provide additional discount offers from other well-known businesses via e-mail.

Pet owners, be sure to visit PETCO at 565 Jericho Tpke. to register for the PALS (PETCO Animal Lovers Save) program.  This program offers great savings storewide on things from supplies and food to toys and treats and invites members to exclusive pet-friendly events.

Friendly's (150 Jericho Tpke.) is looking for some new best friends. BFFs (Best Friends of Friendly's) will receive a coupon for a free three-scoop sundae (with the purchase of one adult entrée), birthday offers for all family members, information on special events, new product and menu item announcements, newsletters and more. Sign up in store or online at Friendlys.com.

Customers who pay with a registered Starbucks gift card will earn stars as part of the Starbucks Rewards program. For registering, customers receive a free drink on their birthday and two hours of daily Wi-Fi access at Starbucks locations. Accumulation of five stars adds free options like syrup and soy milk, free refills on brewed coffee and tea, free coffee with a whole bean purchase and free trial offers for new products. Signing up is easy: Visit Starbucks.com and register any gift card. Locally there are two locations to choose from: 390 Jericho Tpke. and Woodbury Commons (8285 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury).

Moe's Southwest Grill (Woodbury Commons, 8285 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury) has a birthday club. Register your e-mail address to be the first to get breaking news from Moe's, and bring the e-mail with you within two days of your birthday and get a free burrito of your choice.

Drug stores now give rewards, too! Purchases at CVS (55 Cold Spring Rd.) will earn members personalized coupons and Extra Bucks that can be used on future purchases.

Rite Aid (103-131 Jackson Ave.) Wellness-Plus members receive a $5-off coupon good on a $25 purchase merely for signing up and receive members-only pricing throughout the store. Plus, members earn points good for various percentage discounts.
