Iconic Rooster Stolen from Milleridge Inn

Owners offer $500 for the statue stolen Saturday.

The owners of the historic Milleridge Inn in Jericho are offering $500 for the return of an iconic metal rooster stolen Saturday night.

The 3-foot tall, 300 lb. bronze rooster had been a part of the Inn for 50 years and would require at least two people and a truck to carry off, owner Owen Smith told CBS News.

"We are heartbroken to say the least that someone would do such a thing," reads a post on the Inn's Facebook page.

Owners say the rooster had been a fixture of the Inn for over 50 years. The Inn is over 340 years old, gradually built up around a two room house built in 1672. It once served as part of the Underground Railroad and is considered a Long Island institution. Read more about its history here.

If you have any information on the rooster's whereabouts call the Nassau County Police or call the Inn at 516.931.2201.
