Today's countdown is truly an escape for young girls, and young girls only. Located on Jericho Turnpike next-door to Galangal restaurant, a revolutionary concept geared to foster self-confidence, health, and well-being in young females, will be officially opening its doors on Monday, Sept. 12.
As you step into this artfully designed space, created by HDI, only young members are allowed past the string curtain. And that's because this is the one place that girls can truly let their hair down, have fun, and feel independent.
Founders, Lisa Rosen and Clair Lieber-Saul, formed OMG! to reach out to tweens and teens who are constantly bombarded with social media and the pressures that go along with that. By joining this peer community they will feel welcomed in a supportive atmosphere that is non-judgemental and non-threatening.
This haven's main philosophy is to teach girls about being healthy and fit so that it will become a constant in their lives. For clarity purposes, this is not a weight loss center, it's all about guiding young girls to build self-esteem by empowering them to cook their own healthy meals, enjoy regular fitness classes (with no more than 12 students per class), and to take workshops about body image, relaxation, nutrition, and more.
It is here where you will find unique concepts in class structure; as cooking classes finish up in their commercial kitchen, the girls will be led into the fabulously mod circular "We-Chat" room where they will get homework help and some socializing. They will also offer SAT prep classes focused on tutoring girls with an understanding that they process and assimilate information differently than boys.
In addition to the varied classes there is also a make-your-own Smoothie Bar at their disposal and you won't find Oreos or M&M's for toppings only natural whole foods and protein powders to add into the mix.
This is a very well thought-out operation and the staff have a long list of impressive credentials which can be found here. While OMG! is the first place of its kind, they are planning to open more centers on Long Island and across the nation in the future.
So come by on Sept. 10 to their open house from 11am until 4pm to participate in some cooking and fitness demos, meet the staff, and tour this wonderfully imaginative space.
