Here are some of their tips for picking a locksmith:

1. In the event you are locked out of your car and don't have roadside assistance, call only a reputable lock shop, especially one that has a storefront.

2. If you take the risk and call any number out of the phone book you will most likely be routed to a call center that can be located hundreds of miles away. Keep in mind, the locksmith should arrive in a truck clearly marked with the company name. The impostors show up in an unmarked car.

3. A trustworthy locksmith will quote you the total cost of the job, disreputable companies often have hidden charges (mileage, late night calls, service call fees) that they spring on you after the job is completed. Have the estimate in writing before you proceed.

4. Check to make sure they are insured in the event of faulty installation or any property damage incurred.

5. Be cautious if they are going to drill or replace the lock. Quality locksmiths have the right equipment to avoid a botch job.

6. Most importantly, expect the locksmith to ask for your I.D. to confirm that this is indeed your property before they begin.

The bottom line is to hire a reputable lock shop, do your research ahead of time and keep Syosset Locksmith's phone number in your speed-dial.

Here's some info about our local locksmith: Syosset native, Steve Palumbo, worked closely with the previous owner since the 80's and when there was talk of his retirement, Steve stepped in to happily take over.

Originally located by the corner of Jackson Avenue and Muttontown/Eastwoods road, the store headed south to their present location almost two years ago.

Besides being on call 24-hours a day for emergencies, his shop is also a showroom displaying a complete line of decorative hardware at all price points. Palumbo is very proud of the perfectionist workmanship he and his staff provides during installations.

In addition to residential work he also services many local business and commercial operations.

So the key to a good experience is to work with this honorable shop.
