No. 84: Find the Three Secret Stores of Syosset

These are hidden gems for shoppers just waiting to be found.

In our weekly countdown we are taking you to the two rows of buildings behind the shopping strip where , and DT Dance Center are on Robbins Lane. Here we will explore stores you probably did not know were there or you thought were not open to the public. 

Enter the first row of stores by way of the southern part of Ariel Way (which is shaped like a horseshoe) directly behind the seafood store, and you will come upon  

For over 12 years on any given Thursday, Friday, or Saturday this store is teeming with folks buying favors for weddings, engagement parties, bar mitzvahs, sweet 16 or 15's, baby showers, and milestone anniversaries - all at discounted prices.  There are over 10,000 sku's to choose from. Aisles are overflowing with every keepsake you can possibly give out to guests at affairs as mementos for the special day.

As you head to the back you may hear presses going making custom ribbons printed with the name of the guest of honor and the date of the occasion. They can personalize anything like lip balm, tea sachets, cosmetic mirrors and wine labels. You name it and they can create it all on the premises.

A few doors down on the same side you will happen upon Swimmer's Choice. For more than 16 years at this location, this operation outfits local Long Island swim teams and lifeguards with printed logos on caps and professionally rated swimwear. It is here where you will find authentic racing suits.

Everything here is heavily discounted, upwards to 50% off. They carry accessories such as goggles, water shoes, fins, kickboards, and paddles as well as top brands in suits from Speedo, TYR, and Dofin. Open Monday through Saturday, closed during the off-season on Wednesdays.

As you make your way around to the next row, you will see To the right of the gym there is a door marked simply with the letters TDR.  Don't be afraid to open it, there is a family business going on behind that warehouse door. TDR Educational Supply Company has been selling educational toys to schools and developmental disability institutions for over 25 years. 

Teachers have been patronizing this establishment too and the public likes to come here to find items not normally found in toy stores, all at a discounted rate.

You will find cognitive, developmental, and special needs supplies, classroom furnishings, speech resources, sensory products, and skill building materials.  Open Monday through Friday, 9am until 5pm.

As you continue on you will notice many other businesses such as The Wrestling School, a Zawacki dance and workout studio, automotive repair and detailing services, several custom cabinetry companies, Imagining 411 document converters, Peace Love Karate studio, and at the end is Gold Standard Jewelry and Gold Buyers. 

So don't be afraid to venture back there, there is so much to explore!
