No. 90: Books and More at Borders

In our weekly countdown we are shining a spotlight on Books & Music in Syosset.

Although Chapter 11 claimed the Westbury and stores, Syosset survived.  And this town is happy about that, for this box store is more than just about paperbacks and pretty paper goods - it is likened to a community center. 

On any given day, you can hear Mah Jongg tiles clanking in the cafe, book groups discussing their picks, and folks congregating for business meetings. 

With cozy chairs, quiet nooks, and free Wi-Fi, you can get a lot done or just enjoy peacefully perusing the tons of tomes.

Seasonally there are kids programs, held in the children's department, like their annual Springtacular event at 2pm on April 16.  Then the first Friday of every month the Long Island Songwriters host an Open Mic night at 7:30pm and the third Tuesday of every month at 1:30pm Readers in Retirement conducts a book group. You could also find some great around during the week. 

Twice annually they have Educator Appreciation Week where generous discounts are offered.  One is coming up April eight through the 12th.
