Syosset IT Company Earns Worldwide Ranking

CHIPS is in the top 100 for managed services.

CHIPS Technology Group, a Syosset-based company, has been recognized as one of the top 100 providers of managed services in the world. The company landed on the 2010 MSPmentor 100 list, a report by Nine Lives Media Inc. that recognizes the most progressive providers of information technology managed services worldwide.

CHIPS, which was ranked number 77, is one of only 43 companies that made the list both this year and last. The report ranks companies based on several metrics, including revenue and revenue growth in the area of managed services.

The company was founded in 1993 by Evan J. Leonard, president, and David Tan, chief technology officer, who between them performed all the jobs in the early days. Originally located at Hofstra University, the company now resides on Aerial Way and has about 25 employees. Today, CHIPS provides a suite of technology services to clients that range from small businesses with 10 to 15 users up to those with 300 users and several offices.

In 2005, CHIPS began offering managed services, which refers to third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software.

"Making the list is important to us because it adds credibility to the services we have been providing for the past five years," Leonard said.

Leonard said managed services is a growing area in the IT industry, as companies look to save money by outsourcing various technology functions and focusing on their core competencies. According to MSPmentor, the top 100 companies realized a growth of 31 percent in managed services revenue for 2009 versus the previous year, despite challenging economic times.
