Syosset/Woodbury Restaurant News

The latest updates on eats in the area.

There's a new bar menu at Butera's (7903 Jericho Tpke./496-3633) in the Woodbury Village Shopping Center. Consisting mainly of individual grilled pizzas and open-faced bruschetta sandwiches, including a Chicken Meatball Parmesan version, Shrimp Marechiara and Sausage. Pizzas include Margherita, Bianco, made with arugula, prosciutto and ricotta, and Rustica, made with crumbled chicken sausage. Daily bar-only specials may include Grilled Calamari or Shrimp and Seared Scallops with Artichokes.

For lunch they have over a dozen sandwiches served on fresh-baked focaccia bread and "Unburgers" made with portabella mushrooms and a house-made chicken-veggie. They're also continuing their Long Island Restaurant Week prix fixe three-course dinner ($25). It includes a choice of 20 different entrees, a soup or salad and dessert of cheesecake or cannoli. For the full menu go to www.buteras.com and click "Promotions."

In August, Graffiti, an American Grill (8285 Jericho Tpke./367-1340) will be moving to the larger space next door that housed Baang Café & Bar in Woodbury Commons. Around the same time the former Graffiti space will open as Asian Bistro Next Door. Both new spots will have outdoor seating and the new Graffiti will have a bar. The new ABND will add a few Chinese food dishes to the menu (noodles, maybe) and an updated roster of sandwiches and salads. Chef/owner Nicholas Hannides was the original owner of Nicholas James Bistro in Merrick before moving east to cook at Starr Boggs in Westhampton Beach and then to Tribeca Grill in Manhattan before opening Graffiti. He plans to emphasize a sustainable menu with hormone and steroid-free meat, fish and poultry.

Tova Kitchen & Wine (420 Jericho Tpke./364-2017), which morphed from Grills and Things back in November, has a distinct Middle Eastern inspired, casual menu of kebabs, falafel, shawarma and Moroccan chicken. Of course there are burgers, including a Bison burger, plus a nice choice of salads and sandwiches. Various fajitas and quesadillas are available as well and house-made soups like lemon chicken, lentil barley and chili and cheese. Some decent wines by the glass and all bottles are $25.
