Melville, NY, April 22, 2014 – Advanced Urology Centers of New York (AUCNY) urologists including Dr. Elliot M. Paul, MD, FACS (Lake Success Division), Dr. Marc Schumer, MD, FACS (Amityville Division) and Dr. Thomas Rechtschaffen, MD, FACS (Scarsdale, Yonkers North, and Yonkers South Divisions); were selected to join various committees of the American Urological Association (AUA).

Dr. Elliot M. Paul, Chairman of AUCNY’s Clinical Customization Committee, is a resident of Woodmere, Long Island. He will work with the AUA Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee to lend expertise on various issues regarding optimizing patient care in the urologic community, helping oversee a series of panels and co-authoring white papers that are being developed on these subjects. Dr. Paul, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, has been chosen as Top Doctor by Castle Connolly® every year since 2012. He has received various prestigious awards for his clinical achievements, including the 2004 Pfizer Scholar in Urology, the 2004 and 2005 Praecis Pharmaceuticals/AUA Gerald P. Murphy Scholar, and the 2003 and 2004 William Seery Resident of the Year Award at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Marc Schumer, Chairman of AUCNY’s Utilization Review Committee, is a resident of Muttontown and will serve as the NY Section Representative to the AUA Coding and Reimbursement Committee. The Coding and Reimbursement Committee determines the inputs used by the Relative Value Scale Update Committee to determine the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. Dr. Schumer is also on the Urology Board of The Kidney and Urology Foundation. A Long Island Business News Health Care Hero and a second place winner of the Ferdinand Valentine New York State Urologic essay contest two years in a row, he has also published multiple articles in scientific journals and presented at national meetings throughout the country.
Dr. Thomas Rechtschaffen, member of AUCNY’s Quality Management Committee, is a resident of Elmsford and will become a voting member of the Legislative Affairs Committee. He will help provide feedback to staff on the continual refinement of the legislative agenda and its execution while representing the AUA on Capitol Hill, home districts, regulatory bodies and to the White House. Dr. Rechtschaffen is on staff at Montefiore Medical Center, St. John’s Riverside Hospital, Lawrence Hospital Center, and White Plains Hospital Center. He is a frequent invited lecturer both to physicians and community groups about better ways to recognize and treat urological issues.
